Ch 12

Chapter 12: 100 Kilos Weight, 90 Kilos Backbone

"What Sheng bro! What Sheng bro! Did you call him that?" Seeing Xu Dajiang's return, Lu Bian immediately put on a bootlicking expression, "Come and meet Daddy!"

Hearing Lu Bian's words, Xu Dajiang was puzzled at first, "Huh? Why?"

Then his expression brightened, "Oh, I get it! Sheng bro, you're treating us tonight!"

"Even more important than treating us!" Lu Bian gestured for Xu Dajiang to come and sit down, then repeated exactly what Gu Sheng had just told him.

"Wow!" Xu Dajiang was surprised, "Amazing, Sheng bro! So there's actually a company willing to hire students like us?"

Gu Sheng shrugged.

Though he still didn't know why Little Nezha had rejected so many experienced candidates but chose him as the game director.

But that was the reality, and the heaven-sent opportunity landed right on his head.

"Not only did they hire me," Gu Sheng grinned, "I'm even the game director of this company."

"Wow!" Both brothers on the other side were amazed. The fact that Gu Sheng managed to get a job with just a hundred resumes sent out was impressive. His casting-a-wide-net interview strategy somehow caught a big fish.

"But right now, I'm the only project leader in this company, and I'm the only one in the director position. All by myself," Gu Sheng added.

The two brothers nodded.

They could understand. After all, it was a new gaming company.

To put it bluntly, if the company were bigger, Gu Sheng might not have gotten the director position. It was an industry consensus to hire experienced professionals over fresh graduates.

But this was already incredible!!!

"I need more staff now, we don't have a lead programmer or a lead artist," Gu Sheng said to Xu Dajiang, "I already told Bian'er that he's joining me as the lead programmer. Now it's up to you, if you want to come and work with me."

Xu Dajiang hesitated a bit.

Xu Dajiang was an honest and down-to-earth guy. He wasn't as talented as his big brother, Gu Sheng, nor did he have the family background like his second brother, Lu Bian.

His parents were just ordinary working-class people, and their network wasn't extraordinary.

Now, after much effort, they managed to find him a relatively decent job. If he did well, he might spend the rest of his life working and settling down in his hometown.

Therefore, Xu Dajiang had some hesitation.

It wasn't that he was cowardly; on the contrary, it was his sense of responsibility for his own life.

There were many paths in life to choose from.

And from childhood to adulthood, influenced by his parents, Xu Dajiang had always chosen the safest and most reliable path.

As his parents said, "We don't expect you to be highly capable, just live a healthy and honest life."

Seeing Xu Dajiang's hesitation, Lu Bian couldn't help but click his tongue, "Tsk, what are you hesitating about, Xu Dajiang?"

"It's making games, damn it!"

Lu Bian urged, "Isn't this what we've been studying for? To create games that people can play? The opportunity is here, right in front of you. Why are you still hesitating..."

Before Lu Bian could finish, Gu Sheng waved his hand to interrupt him.

Then, he patted Xu Dajiang's shoulder, "It's okay, Xu Dajiang. I respect your opinion. After all, you're not like me. I can eat my fill without my family going hungry, and you're not like Bian'er, who can spend his family's money for two lifetimes."

"You have to be responsible to your family, and I understand that."

"If possible, I'll keep the lead artist position for you. Whenever you feel that things are stable for me, you can come, and it won't be too late."

With that, Gu Sheng smiled.

Xu Dajiang looked at Lu Bian, then back at Gu Sheng.

The dormitory fell silent for a long time!

Then Xu Dajiang took the half-smoked cigarette from Gu Sheng, took a deep drag, and his face turned red, but he held back the urge to cough.

After holding it for a long time, he finally exhaled the smoke slowly and chuckled, "I've never smoked before, and I thought if I took a puff, I'd choke to death. Turns out it's not that bad..."

Saying that, Xu Dajiang took out three boxes of instant noodles he had just bought from the plastic bag, "How about we have these instant noodles for lunch? Otherwise, it would be a waste."

Hahahaha!

After a moment's pause, both Gu Sheng and Lu Bian burst into laughter.

"I'll go boil some water," Lu Bian stood up and went to the water room.

"I'll get two sausages," Gu Sheng patted Xu Dajiang's shoulder and stood up.

Xu Dajiang teased, "Then I'll wait for you two. Don't go sneaking out to satisfy your hunger without me!"

Most of the time, there's an unspoken understanding between brothers.

Though it might seem casual, it's stronger than anything else.

...

The next day!

Gu Sheng, along with Lu Bian and Xu Dajiang, arrived at the headquarters of the Golden Wind Media on time!

As the Chief Secretary, Chu Qingzhou had already gone to report to the Big Boss Shen Miamomiao in the morning, so the one who received them was only Shen Miaomiao.

"Let me introduce you. Lu Bian is the main programmer, specializing in architecture and engine development. He'll be our lead programmer from now on," Gu Sheng introduced as they sat in front of Little Nezha.

"And Xu Da Jiang is our main artist, specialized in artistic modeling," he continued.

Seeing the two faces in front of her, Shen Miaomiao showed a satisfied smile on her face.

One was the director and the main strategist, wearing a Mickey Mouse hoodie, looking like a sunny and cheerful big boy, full of abstract creativity and unorthodox operations.

The other was the main programmer, wearing a plaid hipster shirt, looking like a carefree young rich second-generation.

The third was the main artist, with a sturdy build and a round waist, giving the impression that he could uproot a weeping willow any second.

The three of them were sitting together like this!

If you didn't say it, who could tell that these three were executives of a game company?

This was simply the brilliant development team of fate that was destined to lose money!

"Excellent," Shen Miaomiao nodded, "Let me introduce myself. I am Shen Miaomiao, the CEO of Golden Wind Media. Following Director Gu's recommendation, we have recruited two outstanding talents to join the company. I hope that in the future, you both will assist Director Gu wholeheartedly and strive to make Golden Wind Media a benchmark in the industry!"

With that, she added silently in her heart, "A benchmark in the industry that everyone runs away from due to the losses!"

And so it was!

With the addition of Lu Bian and Xu Da Jiang, the initial lineup of Golden Wind Media was formed.

Anxious to recover from losses, Shen Miaomiao quickly signed contracts with the two of them.

Sitting in Gu Sheng's spacious and bright office, Xu Dajiang lovingly held the contract with a salary of over 200,000 RMB per year, saying, "Haha, Sheng bro, if you had mentioned this salary earlier, I would have come sooner!"

Meanwhile, Lu Bian repeatedly examined the contract, his face filled with worry. "Gu Sheng, is this a legitimate company? Will the next step be organizing us to travel to Southeast Asia?"

Gu Sheng snorted, "You and Dajiang are worrying about such things? With your physique, is there a need to be afraid of being kidnapped?"

After that, Gu Sheng clapped his hands, "Alright, before we start working, there's one thing I want to mention."

"The president of this company, as you just saw, is Little Nezha."

"She's young, lacks experience in the gaming industry, and knows very little about it."

"But! She places tremendous trust in our team!"

Xu Dajiang and Lu Bian nodded.

Their company's big boss indeed appeared to be not very bright, with a face exuding an air of innocence that made her look underage.

It's almost as if whatever Gu Sheng says is what it is. He unconditionally trusts their team and is even willing to provide full financial support.

"So, both professionally and personally, we cannot bully the naive," Gu Sheng said, looking at the two of them, "Is there any objection to this?"

Lu Bian and Xu Dajiang naturally nodded vigorously.

As university students, they excel in being a hundred kilograms in weight with ninety kilograms of backbone. [1]

The more you watch me like a thief, the more I'll find opportunities to slack off!

Conversely, the more you trust and let me be, the more I'll make sure everything is done perfectly!

"Don't worry, Gu Sheng. We understand this principle," Lu Bian nodded.

Xu Dajiang also chimed in, "Especially with this salary, we can't allow any room for error in our work!"

"That's the spirit!" Gu Sheng gave a thumbs-up. "With that settled, let's stop the chitchat. Come on, both of you, feast your eyes—"

"Take a look at our new project!"

Tl Note:

[1]: "A person who carries a hundred kilograms in weight but has a backbone of ninety kilograms."

Chinese proverb, which actually isn't saying their weight. This proverb highlights the idea that some individuals can shoulder heavy responsibilities and obligations with great courage and integrity. They will shoulder responsibility with great courage.
