Ch 11

Chapter 11: Is It True, Daddy?

Walking back to the dormitory, Gu Sheng felt a pleasant mood.

The sky was so high, and the clouds were so distant.

The flowers were fragrant, the grass was fragrant, the air was fragrant, and Gu's mouth was also fragrant -

"Darn it! I'm really fed up with this game!"

"That dog designer, Pure Pure, is a psycho. If I play this game again, I'll go crazy!"

"Ah ah ah ah ah - @¥%……%¥……"

When people reach a certain age, they seem to enjoy listening to some Cybertronian language.

Gu Sheng pushed open the dormitory door and listened to Lu Bian's Cybertronian rap, nodding in satisfaction.

"I can hear the fragrance of flowers and the chirping of birds from our dormitory downstairs," Gu Sheng said with a smile as he walked up behind Lu Bian.

"What silly game are you playing that's making you so angry..."

But before Gu Sheng could finish his sentence, he saw the Mario game on Lu Bian's laptop screen.

...It seemed like he suddenly didn't want to ask Lu Bian to be the main programmer anymore.

Seeing Gu Sheng's return, Lu Bian also threw away the annoying Mario game and greeted him, "Old Gu, you're back so early today. How did the interview go? Any progress?"

Lu Bian knew that since the start of the internship, Gu Sheng had been continuously going for job interviews.

Three or four companies a day, it had been almost a month, and he would leave early and come back late every day.

In fact, Lu Bian had suggested to him before that getting an internship certificate was just a formality, and he could use his connections with relatives to arrange one for him.

After all, it was just a piece of paper.

But Gu Sheng had always been stubborn and insisted on finding an internship position by himself.

Over time, Lu Bian stopped offering help and instead started to inquire about Gu Sheng's mental state every day.

Because, from what Lu Bian knew, Gu Sheng had been busy for over a month, and it seemed like there was no progress in the interviews.

He was afraid that one day, Gu Sheng might become disheartened and directly accept a recommendation for a postgraduate program from his family.

"I guess... there's some progress," Gu Sheng sat down and took a sip of water.

"What about Xu Dajiang?"

"Oh, he went out to buy instant noodles for his road trip," Lu Bian said, popping a cigarette out of the pack and tossing it to Gu Sheng.

"Tomorrow, Xu Dajiang will leave. He said his family has already arranged an internship position for him.

Just a while ago, we were talking about giving you a call tonight,

Let's go out and have a drink?"

As he said this, Lu Bian seemed a little down.

Friendship in college was actually quite fragile. Everyone came from different parts of the country, and once they parted ways, they might never see each other again in this lifetime.

But friendship in college was also quite strong. After all, as the old saying goes, "We've been through thick and thin together."

Although it couldn't be denied that college was a small society, with competitions for student union posts or scholarships, the three of them were just laid-back individuals. Their competitions were limited to the battlefield of "lanes," "red and blue buffs," and "kills."

Now, internships were imminent.

If they all went their separate ways, the next time they met, it might only be for a brief moment on the day of graduation photos.

After that, it would be very difficult for them to get together again.

Glancing at Xu Dajiang's neatly packed bed, Gu Sheng exhaled a puff of smoke.

After a moment of silence, Gu Sheng asked, "Did Xu Dajiang say what kind of job his family arranged for him?"

"It seems to be a small advertising company in their hometown."

"Supposedly, it's doing advertising design and modeling for others in the past. If the internship goes well, he'll probably stay with that company," Lu Bian replied.

"Oh," Gu Sheng nodded, "What about you?"

"Me?" Lu Bian shrugged, "I still don't know. Anyway, I've already sorted out my internship certificate, so it doesn't matter where I go."

Hearing this, Gu Sheng nodded and after a moment of contemplation, he looked up at Lu Bian.

"Bian'er, how about you don't leave?"

Upon hearing this, Lu Bian's expression froze. Then he took a step back with the stool in his hand, looking a bit wary. He even adjusted his collar and said, "Old Gu... I always thought we had a pure friendship between comrades. Besides, I have a girlfriend, and I'm straight..."

Gu Sheng: ...

He really wanted to punch this moron to death.

"I'm talking about the job, you idiot!!!"

Gu Sheng was truly speechless.

"Ah? Oh hi -" Lu Bian was relieved to hear that, "You should have said that earlier. I thought our friendship had changed."

"You son of a...," Gu Sheng rolled his eyes with frustration, then got to the point, "I succeeded in an interview two days ago. A newly established gaming company hired me, but they are currently short of staff. Do you want to work with me?"

Hearing this, Lu Bian's eyes immediately lit up!

Despite his carefree attitude, he had an absolute passion for the gaming industry.

Otherwise, he wouldn't have chosen to study game design in today's stagnant gaming environment in China.

He was eager to work in the gaming industry.

But unfortunately, the gaming industry was quite rigid, and even experienced professionals with years of work experience had difficulty finding jobs, let alone students like them who hadn't even graduated yet.

If it weren't for the lack of choice, Lu Bian wouldn't have let his family arrange an internship for him.

And now!

Old Gu actually said that he found an internship position in the gaming industry and could even recommend him for a job?!

"Damn!"

Lu Bian exclaimed, "Is it true, Daddy?!"

"You are shameless..." Gu Sheng was amazed at how quickly Lu Bian changed his expression.

Then, with a helpless smile, he nodded and asked, "Really, do you want to join?"

"Of course! Definitely!" Lu Bian vigorously nodded, "Isn't this what I've been studying for? And it's also with you. I'm willing!"

This time, it was Gu Sheng who tightened his collar, "Could you stop looking at me with such a thirsty gaze? Are you trying to make a move?"

Meanwhile, Lu Bian acted a bit coy and shy, and flirtatiously replied, "If it's Senior Gu Sheng, it's not impossible..."

Gu Sheng was silent for two seconds.

Then he stood up, picked up the stool.

"Alright, alright, alright. Stop fooling around, bro..."

Lu Bian quickly begged for mercy with a playful and smiling face, asking Gu Sheng not to be impulsive.

Although Lu Bian's mouth was often crude, it couldn't be denied that he was indeed charmed by Gu Sheng's charisma.

As the leader of the dormitory, Gu Sheng had always been the most adept at dealing with people among the three of them, and even among their circle of classmates.

He seemed to possess a maturity and emotional intelligence that went beyond his age. Lu Bian once came across a saying:

"If you feel incredibly at ease and happy when you interact with someone, and they can understand and even guide and correct your thoughts and ideas, then congratulations, that person has completely overshadowed your emotional intelligence and experience."

This is the "downward compatibility mode" of someone with high emotional intelligence and experience. Such individuals usually have four characteristics: a wealth of knowledge, strong empathy, an open mind to embrace diversity, and a perspective that encompasses all things.

Clearly, Gu Sheng was one of those people, especially in the field of gaming. He seemed to have a reductionist viewpoint and had once drawn a magnificent blueprint for a game empire when he was drunk, which was still unforgettable to this day.

If a person like him wasn't worth following, Lu Bian didn't know in what way he could step into the gaming industry he had always yearned for.

With this in mind, Lu Bian spoke earnestly, "Then, my career will be entrusted to you, bro."

He then asked, "By the way, Old Gu, has this game company you'll be joining released any previous works? Let me search and get familiar with their style."

Just as he was speaking, there was a knock on the dormitory door, and Dajiang's voice came from the entrance, "What game company? Sheng, you found an internship position?"

[As you may know, Xiao = Little = Bro, Buddy, Friend and so on. Meaning, old means bro or buddy or friend.]

[Note:'Cybertronian'. This term is used humorously in the text to describe the expletive and frustrated language used by the characters while playing a video game.

Cybertronian language" refers to the language used by the fictional alien race of robots known as Cybertronians. These robots are featured in the Transformers franchise, which includes movies, TV shows, and video games.]
