Ch 1

Chapter 1: Who Would Play Such a Ghostly Game!

"So... this is your interview piece? Meowrio?"

22nd floor, Binjiang Technology Building, Golden Wind Game Technology Co., Ltd., conference room.

As the interviewer for the game director position, Chu Qingzhou, the head secretary, looked at the game proposal in her hands and then at the young man in front of her wearing a Mickey Mouse hoodie.

Her tone was filled with uncertainty.

She couldn't imagine how this piece of junk could be called a "game proposal"!

Just the concept art on the first page was absurd—

An A4 paper laid horizontally, presenting obstacle designs reminiscent of Mario.

However, the protagonist had changed from a mustachioed plumber to a walking upright... cat with a mischievous expression?

The grass, pipes, and even clouds in the picture were all labeled with the word "danger."

The vector arrows crisscrossed, making it seem like there were a hundred traps waiting for this mischievous cat with every step.

The crude artwork carried a strong undertone of mockery, oozing from within.

Was this something designed by a carbon-based life form?

Chu Qingzhou glanced at the picture again, her expression complicated.

Who the hell would play such a ghostly game?!

"Let me confirm once again, Mr. Gu Sheng," Chu Qingzhou took a deep breath, closed the proposal, and frowned as she asked, "Are you sure this is the concept art for the game?"

"Absolutely. Its game style is just like this..."

As he spoke, the young man sitting across from her displayed an awkward yet polite smile.

"Abstract."

...

His name was Gu Sheng, a transmigrator with a system.

Three years ago, due to an accident, he transmigrated to this parallel world and became a freshman in the Game Design major at Binjiang University.

In this world, electronic technology was slightly more advanced than in his previous life, but the level of game development was lacking.

The variety of games was limited, the gameplay was monotonous, and in China, skin gambling and endless generic games dominated the market.

Gu Sheng's system seemed to have come specifically to conquer this untapped market—

"The Game Treasury System."

It was a point exchange system that stored the source code and framework of all the games Gu Sheng had played in his previous life.

Once opened, those works considered the ninth art form would once again see the light of day and shine in this world.

However...

To activate the system, two prerequisites needed to be fulfilled:

"Prerequisite 1: The host is prohibited from releasing any games before the system is activated."

"Prerequisite 2: During the host's internship in their final year, they must successfully be employed as a director or above at a game company."

"Note: Both conditions must be fulfilled simultaneously for the system to be officially activated; otherwise, it will self-destruct."

The first condition was not a problem and could easily be achieved.

But the key was the second condition!

During the "internship period," becoming a "director" at a game company?

That difficulty was simply hellish!

What level was a director?

It was Hideo Kojima! Sid Meier! Gabe Newell! Shigeru Miyamoto!

You expect me, a student, to apply for a game director position?!

Unless the boss is hell-bent on bankrupting the company!

Even if Hideo Kojima himself came, it would be impossible to become a game director before graduating!

But unfortunately, the system's conditions were as stated. If the system couldn't be activated within this one-year internship period, it would automatically disappear.

Thus, Gu Sheng could only try his luck.

And just yesterday!

His 100th resume finally received a response.

A company called "Golden Wind Game" responded to his job application and invited him for an interview today.

...

However...

It seemed that the result of the interview wasn't ideal.

Gu Sheng glanced at the interviewer's pale face and sighed inwardly.

He was just a poor student in this world. Despite his experience in game development from his previous life, where he interned and worked as a project strategist assistant at Yubi Chuan Yu Studio, he faced a lack of opportunities.

Combined with the tight time frame for the interview notice.

In utter helplessness, he could only hastily create this "Meowrio" game as his interview piece.

"Although... it's a bit crude,"

Seeing that the interviewer was speechless, Gu Sheng decided to salvage the situation:

"But its gameplay is definitely solid," he said, "The abundance of traps will continuously stimulate players, and each level they pass will be a dopamine-inducing moment!"

You're talking nonsense, Chu Qingzhou rolled her eyes in her mind.

As if I would believe that.

Are all players masochists? Is life going too smoothly that they need to play your eye-searing ghostly thing???

Chu Qingzhou sighed, not wanting to waste any more time on this foolish designer. She offered Gu Sheng an apologetic smile:

"Sorry, Mr. Gu, your, um... work simply doesn't meet the minimum standards of the game industry," she said, "So—"

Before she could finish her sentence!

A crisp and sweet voice sounded from beside her:

"So, I think you have great potential!"

As soon as those words were spoken!

Both Gu Sheng and Chu Qingzhou were taken aback and turned their heads to look.

There, sitting next to Chu Qingzhou, at the center of the entire conference room, was a young girl.

The girl was about the same age as Gu Sheng, around twenty-two or twenty-three years old. She had a round face, big eyes, and her hair was tied up in buns similar to those of Nezha, giving her a sweet and cute appearance.

Oh, I almost forgot about her.

Gu Sheng raised an eyebrow.

Though it was outrageous, this girl was actually the CEO of this company, the true decision-maker.

Just now, he had considered her the mascot since Little Nezha hadn't said a word.

But unexpectedly, now that she spoke, it was astonishing.

Chu Qingzhou seemed a little confused.

Little one, where do you see the potential in this guy?

Is it in that mischievous smiling cat?

Or in the pipes that can be used as rocket launchers?

Or in the brain-dead mushrooms that can kill you with one bite?

No matter from which perspective, this lousy game didn't seem like a proposal a normal designer would create, right?

If this "Meowrio" game were released on the market, forget about making a profit!

If it could sell even half a copy, I'd kneel down and knock my head for this guy!

However!

Facing Chu Qingzhou's bewildered gaze, Little Nezha remained calm and even smiled slightly as she looked at Gu Sheng:

"Mr. Gu, you just mentioned... that you have no work experience, right?"

"No," Gu Sheng nodded.

If we don't count his previous life, he indeed had no work experience.

"And you haven't planned anything recently?"

"No."

"And you're not involved in any ongoing projects?"

"No."

"Great! Then Golden Wind will be the place for you to showcase your ambitions and fulfill your dreams!"

As she spoke, Little Nezha stood up directly and reached out her hand towards Gu Sheng:

"Welcome to Golden Wind, Director Gu!"

What the f*ck? This isn't right? Wait a minute???

As their hands were about to shake, Chu Qingzhou felt like her CPU was about to overheat!

What kind of show is this?

Is the boss crazy?

Why would she lean towards the tiger's den?

However, Chu Qingzhou tried to intervene, but she was a step too late.

Ding!

As Gu Sheng shook Little Nezha's hand, a crisp sound rang out, instantly resounding in his mind—

[Congratulations! You have successfully been hired as a director, and the Game Treasury System is officially activated!]

[From now on, the system will automatically collect players' emotional values, which can be exchanged for games. The higher the game's sales, the faster the accumulation of emotional values!!!]

This... is a success?

Gu Sheng couldn't help but want to laugh.

Happiness came in the most absurd way.

This Little Nezha is really something... no, a great benefactor!

However, what he didn't know was that at the same moment the system was activated!

In Little Nezha's mind, a notification sound also rang out—

[Ding! Congratulations! You have successfully bound to the Host System, and the Investment Rebate System is officially activated!]

[From now on, whenever the host's project suffers losses, the system will compensate the host tenfold!!!]
